How to Put On a Chastity Cage: Ring, Tube, Lock

How to put on a chastity cage comes down to three moves in a fixed order, ring first, tube second, lock last, and that holds on every two-piece design, from a thirty-dollar eBay cage to a HolyTrainer. The ring is the anchor, and the tube has nowhere to attach until it's seated behind your balls. Do it fully soft, with water-based lube on the inside of the ring, and give the first attempt twenty minutes behind a locked door. First attempts rarely go wrong at the lock. They go wrong a week earlier, when the ring was bought by guessing.

Chastity cage sizing comes before anything else

A cage that fits feels like a broken-in pair of sneakers. Burning on the scrotum at night, chafing, waking in pain from an erection, none of that is a rite of passage, whatever a forum thread says about "training". One long-time wearer on the Newbie Sub blog puts at least 95 percent of comfort problems down to fit, after a month in hell in a cage that was the wrong size.

Ring size, with a string

The ring sits behind the balls and around the base of the shaft, so measure there, and measure soft. HolyTrainer's method is the one I'd hand a beginner. Loop about 30 cm of string that doesn't stretch around the whole package where the ring will sit, and tie a double knot at the point where you can barely slide a finger under it. Leave it five minutes, and if anything tingles or goes cold it's too tight. Cut the loop, measure it, and divide by 3.14 for the ring's inner diameter. On their chart a loop of 133 to 148 mm is a 45 mm ring, their most common size; 119 to 132 mm is a 40 and 149 to 163 mm is a 50.

Kink3D warns that a tape measure tends to give you a ring that's too large, and too large is the beginner mistake. A loose ring lets the cage sag forward, and a testicle slips through the gap when you sit down, usually in a meeting. If you don't trust a string, a cheap cage with four rings between 38 and 54 mm is a sizing kit.

Tube length and the gap

Measure your soft length parallel to the ground, at the shortest you ever are, and pick a tube 10 to 20 mm shorter than that, since a tube with room to spare lets you slide forward, rubs the head, and gives a night erection somewhere to go. Inner diameter should match your soft girth.

The gap is the space between the ring and the back of the tube, about 10 to 14 mm on off-the-shelf cages. If the ring on its own feels fine but the assembled cage burns or pinches, the gap is the problem, and the usual fix is a bigger one.

Putting on a chastity cage step by step

Wash the cage and run a finger around the inside of the tube for sharp edges, because cheap resin cracks and a jagged edge will scrape the glans. Trim the hair a day ahead; fresh razor skin and a ring don't get on. Put the key where you can reach it without standing up.

1. Get fully soft. Half hard, the ring won't seat and the tube won't take you. A cool shower helps, and so does boredom.
2. Lube the ring, not the room. Water-based only, around the inside of the ring and on the skin behind your balls. Silicone lube eats silicone cages, and too much of any lube costs you your grip.
3. Ring on, one ball at a time. Ease one testicle through, then the other, then the shaft. The ring settles into the groove behind the scrotum, and one finger should fit under it with resistance.
4. Tube on. Guide the head in until the slot at the tip lines up with your urethra. If the head catches, use the stocking trick below. If you're uncut, check the foreskin isn't folded double inside the tube or bunched in the gap.
5. Bring tube to ring. Line up the posts or pins with the holes in the ring and push them home. Look at the join, because skin caught between the parts shows as a white line, and if you see one, back off and reseat.
6. Lock. Fit the padlock or the numbered plastic seal your keyholder handed you and give it a gentle tug. For the first two or three sessions leave the lock off so you can bail in seconds.
7. Walk for a minute and look. Color should be normal, the ring should slide a few millimeters side to side, and one finger should still fit. If anything is cold, numb, or going dark, off it comes, now.

How to put on a chastity cage with the stocking trick

The tube is the part that fights you. The stocking trick works on any cage with an opening at the tip. Slide a thin nylon stocking, a knee-high or the foot cut off a pair of pantyhose, over the shaft with a few inches hanging past the head. Put the tube on over the stocking, feed the loose end out through the slot at the tip, and pull. The nylon draws the head into the tube and comes free through the opening, urethra lined up, no poking. It also stops the foreskin bunching between ring and tube, which is why uncut wearers swear by it.

The plastic bag trick is the same idea with a strip cut from a thin produce bag, laid over the head and pulled out through the tip. Plastic is slicker than nylon and less kind to skin, so I'd start with the stocking.

How long to wear a chastity cage the first time

Wear it two to three hours, awake and at home, then take it off and look. Pressure marks that fade in a few minutes are fine. Marks still deep red twenty minutes later, or any patch that went white or purple, mean the ring or the gap is wrong. Treat those first wears as cage fitting and repeat them at different hours, because a ring that's fine at 9 pm on the sofa can be a different ring at 7 am in jeans.

Don't sleep in it in week one. The slow schedules that circulate, an hour a day for the first three days and no overnight until the third week, are more cautious than you probably need, but add hours before you add nights.

Signs to take the cage off right now

• Numbness or tingling anywhere near the ring.
• Skin that feels unusually cool, or looks pale, mottled, purple, blue, or deep red behind the ring.
• Sharp or burning pain, which is different from the dull awareness of pressure.
• Skin visibly caught between the tube and the ring.
• You can't pee, or it only dribbles out the side.
• A sore, an open scratch, or a rash. Stay out until the skin has healed.

Don't sit with any of these to see if they pass, because blood flow that gets cut off again and again can damage nerves for good. If the cage won't come off, try cold water and more lube, and never pull against a stuck ring. A hospital will cut it off if circulation is at risk, and they've seen it before.

Night erections in a chastity cage

You'll have three to five erections a night whatever you're wearing, each lasting five to ten minutes, and the cage doesn't stop them. It contains them. The feeling is pressure and pulling, with the ring tugged forward as everything tries to swell, and for the first few nights it will wake you two to four times. Within a week or two you sleep through it, and sleeping on your back helps.

What shouldn't be happening at night is pain. The Newbie Sub author found a 48 mm ring woke him most nights and went up to 51 mm for sleep. A scrotum that burns by 3 am is a ring or a gap problem, and the fix is a different ring.

Hygiene while you're locked

A daily shower with the spray aimed at the cage covers most of it, as long as you dry it after, because a damp cage is how you get the rash. Pat it with a towel or use a hairdryer on cool from arm's length. Cotton swabs and hot soapy water reach under the ring and through the bars. Sit to pee, since the slot never lines up quite as well as you think, and rinse the tip after.

Come out of it fully at least once a week, twice if you sweat or train, and wash yourself and every part of the device in hot soapy water. If you're uncut and the foreskin pokes through the end bars, keep an eye on it, because that's where the inflammation starts.

HolyTrainer, Cellmate, and what a lock is for

I checked the makers' own pages in September 2026. HolyTrainer's V6 is a bioresin tube on a solid ring, with the tube fixed in the center of the ring so skin can't get caught between them, and a small removable padlock built into the ring, with a key. It comes in six rings from 36 to 60 mm and five tube lengths.

The Cellmate is the other famous one, for the wrong reasons. It's Bluetooth, unlocked from an app, with no key; the only manual release is poking a SIM tool through a glue plug, which the maker says can't be undone. In October 2020 security researchers found its API left open, so anyone could lock any device remotely, and one attacker did, for a bitcoin ransom. The company's suggestion for anyone stuck was a screwdriver. A device with no key isn't a beginner's device.

As for the lock, treat it as a promise. The small barrel locks on most steel cages can be picked with a folded condom wrapper, which a lockpicking YouTuber demonstrated in 2019. What holds you is the person with the key.
