Erotic roleplay: what it is, the scenarios that work, and how to tell it's your kink
Erotic roleplay is sex, or the run-up to it, played as a story. What erotic roleplay is
Strip the jargon and erotic roleplay is pretend with the stakes turned up. Two adults agree on a frame (who they are, where they are, what one of them wants from the other), step into it, and stay there long enough for the frame to do something real. The professor isn't your professor and the captive was never caught, but your pulse doesn't know that, and neither does the part of you that's been waiting for an excuse.
The excuse is what you're there for. Asking to be ordered around as yourself, or begging for something you could simply have, can feel silly or too exposed. As the new hire who very much needs this job to work out, it's just the scene. Roleplay lets you want things out loud, and lets your partner hand them over, without either of you signing your real name to it.

What a scene looks like from the inside
A scene has a shape, and knowing it makes the first one easier. It opens with a setup both of you can see, a line that says the office is empty and the door is locked, or a sentence that settles who you are tonight. Someone makes the first move in character, the other person answers in character, and for a minute it feels like a school play. That minute passes the moment one of you says a line that lands, the one that makes the other person forget to be self-conscious. After that the scene mostly runs itself.
Take the interview. They're the hiring manager, you're the candidate, and the job is yours if you can follow instructions. The early beats are almost boring, and that's deliberate. Sit there. Answer that. Stop fidgeting. The heat comes from the gap between what a normal interview would allow and what this one keeps asking for, and from your character deciding, again and again, to say yes. By the time the scene is explicit the parts have done their work and you're both just obeying the story.
The ending matters as much as the setup. A scene has a last line, and it's usually someone breaking character to say your real name and ask how that was. The story stops being in charge and you get each other back.
Kinky roleplay scenarios that hold up
The lists of BDSM roleplay ideas online are long and mostly interchangeable, because they sort by costume, which is how the nurse ends up at number one every single time. Sorting by what the scene gives you is more useful.
Authority scenes give you a reason to obey: boss and employee, the professor and the grad student who needs an extension, officer and suspect, doctor and patient. Scene roleplay vs a D/s dynamic, and vs dressing up
The closest thing to scene roleplay is power exchange, and what separates them is where you stand. In a dominant and submissive dynamic you're yourself, with your name, your rules and your record carried from one night to the next. In a scene you're somebody else for an hour, and being somebody else is what you came for. Plenty of people want both, which is why a strict dominant will happily play the professor on Friday and be back to their own rules by Saturday.
